About Us
As Royal Engineers we have 3 main functions these are to help the Army Live, Move and Fight. In order to carryout these functions all our soldiers are trained firstly as Infantry then as Combat Engineers and final in Aritisan Trades. Infantry I am sure you will already understand. Combat Engineers design, construct and maintain (destroy when appropriate), roads, airfields, ports, bridges, power and sewerage installations on and around the battlefield. Our artisan trades range from Clerk of Works through 28 construction trades from bricklayer to electrician. We are technically affiliated to 12 Engineer Group based in Waterbeach near Cambridge and work alongside them on training Exercises both in the UK and Overseas. We have had personnel deployed on operations and our next main deployment is to Afghanistan in 2009.The Royal Engineers serve all over the world as recognised by their unique motto "Ubique", which means everywhere.
Roles
To operate as a Engineer Unit we need the whole spectrum of skills and offer training from basic driving up to operating heavy plant equipment. The Regiment requires every construction trade and has vehicle mechanics, medical support as well as catering and adminstration support. We provide all these skills in order to support Engineer and other units deployed on both training exercises and operations the technical skills that they require.
Training
We train on a Tuesday night between 7-9.30pm. If you would like to come in to have a look around and find out more about what we have to offer please contact us on the above number. There is no obligation to sign up by just visiting, so why not give it a try?
