Earlier this month Reservists from 215 (Scottish) Multirole Medical Regiment (MMR) returned from an eventful and insightful Annual Continuous Training (ACT) Exercise in Kenya.
Exercise HARAKA SERPENT saw 120 personnel from the Regiment deploy across various locations alongside 8 members of other medical units including 210 MMR and Joint Hospital Group, which provides highly capable secondary healthcare personnel for Operations and Defence activity.
Against a backdrop of civil unrest in the country, the 215 MMR personnel were put through their paces working to support Clinical Health Outreach Clinics in collaboration with local health authorities, charitable organisations and members of the Kenyan Armed Forces.
The ACT Exercise provided a highly valuable opportunity for the Reservists to undertake training in administering ‘austere environment’ medical care, working in difficult conditions and with limited resources to deliver the best possible healthcare support to the local communities.
As with most deployments of this kind, the Exercise was also a welcome opportunity for knowledge and skill sharing between the 215 MMR teams and their counterparts from the Kenyan Defence Force.
Overall, the Ex HARAKA SERPENT deployment succeeded in treating over 5,000 patients across 11 locations, and provided vital military medical training to 270 Kenyan Defence Force Troops.
Carrying out such intense and important work in an unfamiliar environment and climate called for some much-needed fun and relaxation, and the Reservists took full advantage of their new surroundings to enjoy some Adventurous Training (AT), abseiling down waterfalls and taking in the stunning views of rural Kenya.
