The year got off to an eventful start for Reservists from the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry (SNIY) as they set off to the snowy slopes of Verbier in Switzerland to take part in Exercise WHITE KNIGHT, a military Alpine Skiing competition.
Over the course of the ten-day exercise, races were held in all four of the Alpine disciplines: Downhill, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom, also known as Super-G.
The Yeomanry’s A and B teams each included competitors from SNIY, as well as the Queen’s Own Yeomanry (QOY), Royal Yeomanry (RY) and Royal Wessex Yeomanry (RWxY). The A and B teams faced off against colleagues from other units within the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) and Army Air Corps (AAC).
Both teams enjoyed successes right across the board, with the A team picking up Best Downhill and Giant Slalom teams, Best RAC team and Second Best Slalom and Super-G Slalom teams. They were also named Overall Best team and Ex WHITE KNIGHT Champions. The B team, meanwhile, had an impressive run of their own, picking up prizes for Best Slalom and Super-G Slalom team.
