On Thursday 24 April Freemasons’ Hall in Edinburgh opened its doors to host a special event aimed at helping service leavers and veterans to thrive in the civilian world through careers in project management.
The event, delivered by the Association for Project Management (APM), gave local veterans and service personnel in the process of transitioning out of the Armed Forces to hear from a number of speakers throughout the day. These included major employers such as aberdeen Wealth Management, Heriot-Watt University, Network Rail and BAE Systems, as well as fellow veterans currently working in project management and Scottish Veterans Commissioner Susie Hamilton.
Once the presentations and panel discussions drew to a close, attendees were welcome to network with each other and visit the employers’ information stands to find out more about potential new career paths to which they could apply the specialist knowledge and skills gained through their military service.
The Grand Lodge of Antient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland, who provided the venue for the Project Management event, is itself a Forces-friendly organisation, having received the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award in 2024.
Grand Master Mason Ramsay McGhee said of the event: ‘The Grand Lodge of Scotland was delighted to host today’s event in Freemasons’ Hall as part of the organisation’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
‘In recognising the immense contribution which is made by members of our Armed Forces, we were proud to play our part, along with the other participating organisations, to assist APM in staging a really excellent day to help service leavers to transition into civilian life.’
