At the end of February our Head of Communications, Kate Johnston, was invited to attend a Marketing Strategy Day with 603 Squadron RAF Reserves in Edinburgh.
With ambitious recruitment goals for 2023, 603 Squadron wanted to assess their current marketing strategy and develop a plan for the following year.
Joined digitally by Flight Lieutenant Padbury from RAF Reserves, 603’s Squadron Leader Derek Read and Flight Sergeant Barry Kinkade set the agenda for the day.
After an initial discussion on the Squadron’s previous marketing campaigns, the group spent the rest of the day considering questions like:
- What message does the Squadron want to promote?
- Who do they want to reach?
- What’s the best way to reach this audience?
The lively conversation helped the Squadron to identify a couple of quick wins and equipped them to build a longer term marketing plan for the coming year.
Reflecting on the day and the input from Lowland RFCA, the Squadron commented: ‘Kate’s wealth of knowledge proved invaluable during a Marketing Strategy Day held within the Town Headquarters. Both the Officer Commanding 603 and the Recruitment team will look at implementing the invaluable guidance which Kate has given us.’
Kate said: ‘It’s always a joy to visit units. Discussing the marketing and communications challenges they face and collaboratively coming up with achievable solutions is a fantastic experience.’
