On Saturday 2 December Edinburgh Castle played host to a number of special guests to celebrate the Formation of 215 (Scottish) Multirole Medical Regiment, bringing together 225 (Scottish) Medical Regiment and 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital into a single Army Medical Services Regiment for the whole of Scotland.
The merging of the two Army Reserve medical units allows the new Regiment to offer a full spectrum of healthcare capabilities and to support tasks from training and education right through to supporting combat operations abroad.
Over 300 personnel took part in the Formation Parade on the Castle’s Esplanade, including 120 members of the newly formed Regiment. The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry Pipes and Drums were also in attendance to provide a stirring musical accompaniment.
Among the VIPs in attendance to witness the Formation of 215 MMR were the Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Major General Alistair Bruce of Crionaich OBE DL VR, General Officer Scotland Major General Robin Lindsay CBE and the regiment’s Honorary Colonel, Dame Katherine Grainger DBE, Olympic rowing medallist, Chair of UK Sport and Chancellor of the University of Glasgow.
Following on from the Formation Parade, an Act of Remembrance was held at the Scottish National War Memorial, with Major General Lindsay laying a wreath. The event concluded that evening with a celebratory dinner at the Balmoral Hotel for members of the Regiment, their families and the VIP attendees.
