Cadet organisations in Scotland have suspended all activity with immediate effect due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
In line with recent Government direction on Covid-19, all Army Cadet Force (ACF), Sea Cadet and RAF Air Cadet involvement in face-to-face encounters are to be halted including Beating Retreat 2020.
Glasgow and Lanarkshire Batallion ACF, Lothian and Borders Battalion ACF and West Lowland Battalion ACF have ceased all training until further notice. A statement on the Army Cadet Force website said: “We continue to follow the direction and guidance from the UK Government, NHS and Public Health organisations.
“In line with recent Government direction on the Covid-19 pandemic, all Army Cadet activity is to be suspended with immediate effect.
“Any face-to-face Army Cadet activities (including either cadets or CFAVs) are cancelled or postponed. This will be indefinitely until further Government guidance and encompasses all activity including detachment evenings, residential weekends and camps, visits, sport, music, DofE and AT.
“Planning for cadet activities during May – August will continue, and a decision will be taken in late April with regard future activity and further direction given when the ongoing situation is clear.”
The RAF Air Cadets organisation reiterated the ACF’s message online while a post on the Sea Cadets’ official Twitter account on 17 March said: “As of today, all Sea Cadets units across the country have begun to suspend Cadet activities, in line with Government advice. A difficult decision to make, but one we feel is in the best interests of our cadets and volunteers.”
