Covering over 600 acres of land and comprising numerous facilities including firing ranges, storage and classroom facilities, Dry Training Areas for Fieldcraft and Navigation Lessons and even a working farm, Dechmont Range in Cambuslang regularly hosts Reserve and Cadet units for annual camps and other training exercises. Not only that, but the Range features public access areas where local community members can enjoy walking, cycling and horse-riding.
Between these regular users and visiting organisations that can request private bookings to make use of the Range facilities, a great deal of care and hard work is required to keep everything in top condition, headed by Lowland RFCA’s own specialist Range Team.
Earlier this summer, the Dechmont team received an extra helping hand in their efforts as they were joined by Reservists from 154 (Scottish) Regiment RLC for a special conservation event on Tuesday 25 June.
Ten personnel from the Regiment keenly volunteered to assist with maintenance tasks including litter-picking, grass-cutting and any other work required to help keep Dechmont in working order, and the Range Team happily took them up on the offer.
‘I’d like to express my sincerest thanks from the whole Range Team at Dechmont to the staff from 154 Regiment for all their hard work on this conservation project,’ said Paul Priestley, Dechmont’s Range Manager.
‘The Reservists made a huge contribution to the Range that would have taken our team an age to complete by ourselves.’
