NOMINATION PROCESS CADET CERTIFICATE

Where a Lord-Lieutenant has agreed to the appointment of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets, Area Officers Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), Cadet Commandants Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Wing Commanders Air Training Corps (ATC) located within that Lieutenancy may nominate utilising the Lowland RFCA website.

Those nominated should be expected to continue their Cadet Service for at least nine months after appointment. They must be of outstanding quality and normally of or above the rank of Leading Cadet/Cadet Sergeant (or equivalent). This year there will be an exception due to the impact of Covid, whereby nominations for Cadets out with the ranks listed above can be made. But only where the Cadet displays the attributes required by the organisation and the Lord-Lieutenants. Their tenure will normally run from June 2022 to June 2023. Due to the restrictions imposed by Covid nominations will also be considered for extensions to existing Lord-Lieutenant Cadets.

Each Cadet Organisation may submit details of nominations per Lieutenancy as follows:

  • A maximum of 2 cadets per ACF Battalion
  • A maximum of 2 cadets in each ATC Wing
  • A maximum of 1 cadet in each SCC District

Provided the Lord-Lieutenant agrees the nomination, the appointment as a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, will take effect from the time the Lord-Lieutenant accepts the candidate and will run for one year after appointment.

The Cadet’s appointment will be recognised through the issue of a Certificate by Lowland RFCA and signed by the Lord-Lieutenant. The Certificate, with a badge, will be forwarded to the unit by Lowland RFCA.

Subject to individual Service dress regulations, Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets will wear a special badge (provided by Lowland RFCA) on the right arm and may continue to wear the badge after being replaced at the end of the appointment.

Where a Lord-Lieutenant wishes one or more of his or her Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets to attend on him or her at a particular event or function, the Clerks to the Lieutenancies, or the Secretary in the case of Lord Provosts, will arrange the necessary details with the appropriate Cadet HQ.  It will be the responsibility of the Cadet’s unit to ensure that the cadet is at the right place, on time and properly dressed.

It is the responsibility of Area Officers, Cadet Commandants or Wing Commanders to advise head teachers or employers of the appointments when made.
